The Dawn of Hope for Maryam Ahmadu
Life-saving events are always quintessential for LPF in the humanitarian space, and Maryam’s story was no exception.
In Warabe village, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, three-year-old Maryam shines with health and happiness. Her bright smile and playful spirit tell a remarkable story of resilience and community support as she has overcome severe acute malnutrition (SAM).
Maryam’s health began to decline. Her cheeks became hollow, her eyes sunken, and she lacked energy. Her mother, Hafsatu, recalls tearfully, “She couldn’t eat properly, and I was scared we would lose her.”
Her condition worsened until LPF community volunteers identified her as having severe acute malnutrition during a household screening.
LPF Nutrition health workers started her on Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) and monitored her closely. Hafsatu stayed by her daughter’s side, learning about balanced nutrition and hygiene to prevent future relapses.
Maryam and other children’s recovery has inspired hope in Warabe community, highlighting the importance of timely intervention and education in fighting malnutrition.
