Protecting Lives, One Clean Space at a Time
In crisis-affected communities, access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene is not just a basic need, it’s a matter of life and death. One of the most effective yet often overlooked public health interventions is disinfection. This critical practice plays a vital role in preventing the spread of deadly waterborne diseases such as cholera, diarrhea, typhoid, and other infectious outbreaks that thrive in environments with poor sanitation.
In areas like Bama and Pulka in Borno State, for example, where people live in overcrowded conditions and resources are limited, the risk of disease transmission is significantly heightened. Disinfection serves as a frontline defense, targeting public latrines, water collection points, and known cholera hotspots to reduce the presence of harmful pathogens in the environment.
At Lindii Peace Foundation (LPF), we understand that maintaining a clean and safe environment is essential for safeguarding public health. That’s why, through the NHF-funded project implemented in partnership with the Danish Refugee Council (DRC), we conduct routine disinfection activities across the vulnerable communities of Ngurosoye and Kasugul in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State. These interventions are reactive and preventive, helping to contain risks before they escalate into full-blown outbreaks.
Our teams carry out:
- Regular disinfection of communal latrines to ensure they remain usable and safe
- Spraying and cleaning of cholera-prone zones identified through health surveillance
- Sanitization of water points to ensure safe water collection and usage
- Community sensitization on hygiene practices to complement disinfection efforts
When combined with hygiene promotion, safe water access, and community education, disinfection becomes a powerful tool in our mission to protect lives and build healthier communities.
At LPF, we remain committed to this ongoing effort because every disinfected space is a step closer to a safer future for all.
