The International Day of Rural Women 2023, occurring on Sunday, October 15, 2023, aims to commemorate the vital contributions of women in rural areas to food systems while promoting women’s empowerment.
Globally, one out of every three employed women works within the agri-food sector, where they play pivotal positions as producers, laborers, processors, traders, retailers, and consumers in the food systems. Their contributions are indispensable in advancing resilience and fairness in agri-food systems.
In the heart of rural communities, a silent revolution is taking place, driven by the dedication and hard work of women. Women not only form a substantial part of the agricultural labor force but also shoulder the bulk of unpaid care and domestic responsibilities within their families and households.
