For persons with disabilities living in underserved communities, access to mobility aids and healthcare services can significantly improve quality of life, independence, and social inclusion. In Bombori Majakura community of Nguru Local Government Area, Yobe State, many individuals face daily challenges in accessing essential services due to mobility limitations and inadequate healthcare support.
To address these challenges, Lindii Peace Foundation (LPF), with support from the Nigeria Humanitarian Fund (NHF), provided assistive devices to persons with disabilities in the community. The support included wheelchairs, crutches, and walking sticks, aimed at improving mobility and enabling beneficiaries to carry out daily activities with greater ease and confidence.
In addition to the distribution of assistive devices, beneficiaries received free medical consultations and medications to address immediate health concerns and improve their overall well-being. The integrated support ensured that vulnerable individuals not only gained improved mobility but also had access to essential healthcare services.
For many beneficiaries, the intervention represents more than the provision of equipment, it is an opportunity to regain independence, participate more actively in community life, and access services that were previously difficult to reach. The assistive devices have reduced physical barriers and helped restore dignity and hope among recipients.
Speaking during the intervention, community members expressed appreciation for the support, highlighting the positive impact it will have on the lives of persons with disabilities and their families.
Through the support of the Nigeria Humanitarian Fund, LPF continues to extend humanitarian assistance to vulnerable populations in hard-to-reach communities across northeastern Nigeria. By improving access to healthcare services and promoting disability inclusion, the organization remains committed to ensuring that no one is left behind.
This intervention reflects the importance of inclusive humanitarian action that recognizes the needs, rights, and dignity of all individuals, particularly those most vulnerable to exclusion and limited access to services.
