For many years, Ya Aisa’s shelter was located close to an open waste dumping area. People from different parts of the camp disposed of refuse there, creating serious health and safety risks. The situation became so challenging that some families were forced to relocate due to the unhygienic conditions.
In response, Lindii Peace Foundation (LPF), with support from the Nigerian Humanitarian Fund (NHF), constructed a safe and structured solid waste disposal site. This intervention strengthened environmental health standards within the camp and promoted safer waste management practices.
Ya Aisa said.
“Today, we can safely dispose of our waste at any time, even at night,”

The new facility is now widely used by camp residents, supporting improved sanitation, reduced health risks, and a safer living environment.
This collaboration underscores LPF and WHO’s commitment to strengthening public health systems and promoting disease prevention in humanitarian settings.
