As part of ongoing emergency response efforts to contain the cholera outbreak in Borno State, Lindii Peace Foundation (LPF)’s Case Area Targeted Intervention (CATI) team visited the Emergency and Infectious Diseases Hospital located in Moranti Area, Njimtilo, Maiduguri, Borno State, where cholera patients are currently receiving emergency medical treatment.
At the time of reporting on the 23rd May, 2026, at 11AM, health officials recorded 15 new cholera cases and 1 death, highlighting the urgent need for rapid public health interventions to prevent further spread of the disease within vulnerable communities.
Following assessments at the treatment facility, the LPF CATI team immediately deployed to communities linked to reported cases. The team conducted household inspections and carried out disinfection activities in the homes of affected individuals and families as part of efforts to interrupt disease transmission and reduce the risk of infection within households and neighboring communities.

The intervention also provided an opportunity for community sensitization on hygiene practices, environmental sanitation, and preventive measures aimed at protecting families from further exposure to cholera.

Through timely response actions and community-based interventions, LPF continues to support emergency public health efforts focused on saving lives, strengthening disease prevention, and promoting safer and healthier communities across the Northeast and Northwest, Nigeria.

LPF remains committed to working alongside health authorities, community leaders, and humanitarian partners to strengthen outbreak preparedness and response for vulnerable populations affected by public health emergencies.
